Lyrics

Intro

    e-|--7---5---4-2-0------------------------------0-----------
    B-|----------------4-2--------------------------0--------2--
    G-|--------------------4-2-1--------------------1--------2--
    D-|--------------------------4-2-0--------------2--------2-- ...begin verse
    A-|--------------------------------4-2-0--------2--------0--
    E-|--------------------------------------4-2-0-----0-2-4----

Verse

A B7 E (walkup) Just around the corner there's heartache A B7 E (walkup) Down the street that losers use A B7 E If you can wade in through the teardrops A B7 E (walkup) You'll find me at the home of the blues ...repeat same chords for each verse section I walk and cry while my heartbeat Keeps time with the drag of my shoes The sun never shines through this window of mine It's dark at the home of the blues

Bridge

A E Oh, but the place is filled with the sweetest memories B7 E (walkup) Memories so sweet that I cry A E Dreams that I've had left me feeling so bad F# B7 I just want to give up and lay down and die So if you just lost your sweetheart And it seems there's no good way to choose Come along with me, misery loves company You're welcome at the home of the blues (instrumental verse with solo) Just around the corner there's heartache Down the street that losers use If you can wade in through the teardrops You'll find me at the home of the blues A B7 E A E Yeah, you're gonna find me at the home of the blues

Notes & Tabs

Guitar Chords Used

Here's the guitar chords you'll need to play -- very straightforward I, IV, and V in the key of E -- though in the bridge you will need an F#, which is barre chord.

e-|---0----0----2----2----
B-|---0----2----0----2----
G-|---1----2----2----3----
D-|---2----2----1----4----
A-|---2----0----2----4----
E-|---0--------------2----
      E A B7 F#

This is by no means required, but an alternative way to play the A, B7, and E-major chords (to match the lead guitar of the recorded version) is as follows. Listen along for reference regarding strumming and timing, of course.

e-|---5---7---4----
B-|---5---7---5----
G-|---6---8---4----
D-|---7---9---6----
A-|----------------
E-|----------------
      A B E

Guitar Intro Riff

Here's the guitar tab for the intro riff to this song. Note that you'll have the 4th fret used on each string -- so let that be your anchor (I let my pinky sit on the 4th fret for each string used).

e-|--7-----5-----4--2--0--------------------------------------------0---
B-|-----------------------4--2--------------------------------------0---
G-|-----------------------------4--2--1-----------------------------1---
D-|--------------------------------------4--2--0--------------------2---
A-|-----------------------------------------------4--2--0-----------2---
E-|--------------------------------------------------------4--2--0------

Alternative version here, which is the exact same notes but changes which strings are used in the middle. Looking at the live version it seems this is what Cash's guitarist plays... but I prefer the version above to keep your hand from having to jump around. Use whichever you like.

e-|--7-----5-----4--2--0--------------------------------------------0---
B-|-----------------------4--2--0-----------------------------------0---
G-|--------------------------------2--1-----------------------------1---
D-|--------------------------------------4--2--0--------------------2---
A-|-----------------------------------------------4--2--0-----------2---
E-|--------------------------------------------------------4--2--0------

Verse Walk-Up Riff

For the verse sections throughout the song, you'll want to use this basic walkup on the low E-string to transition from the E-major to the A-major. Rinse and repeat, nice and simple.

e-|--------------0------2------0--0---
B-|--------------2------0------0--0---
G-|--------------2------2------1--1---
D-|--------------2------1------2--2--- ...repeat
A-|-----------0------2---------2--2---
E-|--0--2--4----------------0---------
              A B7 E

About

My name is David Potsiadlo, and I created Songnotes to share my collection of guitar tabs, chords, and lyrics for my favorite songs.

Since I started playing guitar over 10 years ago, I've often been frustrated by the preponderance of mediocre and incomplete song tabs littered across the internet. To combat this, I started keeping my own collection of notes for each song I learn -- always taking the extra time to make sure accuracy and completeness are never compromised. Years later, my collection grew to the point where I knew I had to share it online with fellow aspiring musicians.

In December 2012, I began designing & developing a website that became Songnotes. Here, I share my personal collection of hand-crafted music notation with all those online. I hope you enjoy.
