I'm choosing to transcribe this song without a capo. Put your guitar in standard tuning and use the chords shown on this page, and you'll be able to play along with the official song. If you can't yet play barre chords, try using a capo on the 4th fret -- which would mean C#m becomes Am, B becomes G, F# becomes D, and A becomes F.
Here is how to play this song's chords using a guitar. I tend to use the alternate chord positions during the chorus, simply to mix it up a bit between the verse and chorus sections.
Primary Positions Alternate Positions e-|----4---------2--------- e-|----9----7--------5----- B-|----5----4----2----2---- B-|----9----7---11---5----- G-|----6----4----3----2---- G-|----9----8---11---6----- D-|----6----4----4----2---- D-|---11----9---11---7----- A-|----4----2----4----0---- A-|---11----9----9---7----- E-|--------------2--------- E-|----9----7--------5----- C#m B F# A C#m B F# A
Here is how I play the intro to this song on a guitar. Note that on the album this is played with a synth, so a bit of interpretation is at work here. One of my main goals is to ensure I somewhat capture the bass notes heard at the start of each measure (that usher in the C#m, B, and F# chords). The biggest tip I have is to barre the 4th fret (down to the D string) while you play this entire thing, if you can... it will allow you keep your general hand position in the same relative spot. Also, understand you're basically always playing notes from the C# dorian scale. Obviously, use this as reference and play it as you wish -- if you wish to play it at all.

Here's a list of the 173 songs I've added to the site since December 2012. Each song was added by me personally.
Songs are grouped by the year they were released.
My name is David Potsiadlo, and I created Songnotes to share my collection of guitar tabs, chords, and lyrics for my favorite songs.
Since I started playing guitar over 10 years ago, I've often been frustrated by the preponderance of mediocre and incomplete song tabs littered across the internet. To combat this, I started keeping my own collection of notes for each song I learn -- always taking the extra time to make sure accuracy and completeness are never compromised. Years later, my collection grew to the point where I knew I had to share it online with fellow aspiring musicians.
In December 2012, I began designing & developing a website that became Songnotes. Here, I share my personal collection of hand-crafted music notation with all those online. I hope you enjoy.
