C-O-L-A cola E She walked up to me and she asked me to dance A D I asked her name and in a dark-brown voice she said E A D C C D E Lola... L-O-L-A Lola....... la-la-la-la Lola (short break, stay on the E chord) Well, I'm not the world's most physical guy But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine Oh my Lola... lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Well, I'm not dumb but I can't understand Why she walked like a woman but talked like a man Oh, my Lola... la-la-la-la Lola... la-la-la-la Lola (short break, stay on the E chord)

Chorus

B Well, we drank champagne and danced all night F# Under electric candlelight A She picked me up and sat me on her knee Am And said, "Little boy, won't you come home with me" Well, I'm not the world's most passionate guy But when I looked in her eyes well I almost fell For my Lola... La-la-la-la Lola... la-la-la-la Lola Lola... la-la-la-la Lola... la-la-la-la Lola (short break, stay on the E chord)

Bridge

A C#m B I pushed her away A C#m B I walked to the door A C#m B I fell to the floor E G#m C#m I got down on my knees B Well, I looked at her and she at me That's the way that I want it to stay And I'll always want it to be that way For my Lola... La-la-la-la Lola Girls will be boys and boys will be girls It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world Except for Lola... La-la-la-la Lola Well, I'd left home just a week before And I'd never ever kissed a woman before But Lola smiled and took me by the hand And said, "Little boy, I'm gonna make you a man" Well, I'm not the world's most masculine man But I know what I am and I’m glad I'm a man And so is Lola... La-la-la-la Lola... la-la-la-la Lola Lola... la-la-la-la Lola... la-la-la-la Lola (repeat & jam)

Guitar Chords Used

Here's how to play the guitar chords used in this song. The chorus and bridge get a bit tricker with barre chords, but you can get away with simple open chords for the intro and verse sections.

Intro Riff

Here is the guitar tab used for playing the intro to the song. THough it isn't required, this shows the regular C chord with an added G for the bass note. For the picking pattern at the end of this riff, be sure to listen along to get an idea of the timing. THe key with picking a pattern such as this is keeping your pick hand continuously moving (similar to a strum motion) -- this will ensure the rhythm is even and natural. As always, it is best to listen along to reference.

Extended Intro & Verse Riff

Here is how I play an extended intro to this song, which is basically an instrumental version of the main verse (can can be played during the verse, as well). This can be heard on some of The Kinks live performances. This may not be the exact way Ray Davies (etc) play it but it still should be perfectly suitable. Listen along for strumming pattern and rhythm, of course.

e-|---/4--4--4----2----0--0--------0--0--0--------------------0--0------0----
B-|---/5--5--5----0----0--0-------/5--5--5-----7--7--7--7-----5--5------0----
G-|---/4--4--4----2----1--1-------/6--6--6-----7--7--7--7--x--7--7------1----
D-|--------------------2--2-------/7--7--7-----7--7--7--7--x--7--7------2----
A-|-------------------------------/7--7--7-----0--0--0--0--x--0--0------2----
E-|---------------------------------------------------------------------0----
       E A D E
"Met in her a club... drink... taste just like... cola"

Alternatively, a simpler version of the same general fill can be played like this. For the E chord, use your pinky and ring finger to play the notes on the high E-string.

e-|----4--4--4----2----0--0--------0--0--0-----2--2--2--0--x------------0----
B-|----0--0--0----0----0--0--------2--2--2-----3--3--3--3--x--3--3------0----

D-|----2--2--2----2----2--2--------2--2--2-----0--------------0--0------2----
A-|--------------------------------0------------------------------------2----
E-|---------------------------------------------------------------------0----
       E A D E
"Met in her a club... drink... taste just like... cola"

Audio of the Intro + Verse Riff

Here is a audio short recording of me putting the intro + verse riffs together. This should give an idea of what this sounds like -- but as always, feel free to make it your own as you see fit.

Recommended Cover Version

For a nicely shot video of a great cover version, check this out. This is played by Mike Masse and Jeff Hall. Very cool acoustic riffing in the very beginning -- it shows the good fun you can have with this tune.

About

My name is David Potsiadlo, and I created Songnotes to share my collection of guitar tabs, chords, and lyrics for my favorite songs.

Since I started playing guitar over 10 years ago, I've often been frustrated by the preponderance of mediocre and incomplete song tabs littered across the internet. To combat this, I started keeping my own collection of notes for each song I learn -- always taking the extra time to make sure accuracy and completeness are never compromised. Years later, my collection grew to the point where I knew I had to share it online with fellow aspiring musicians.

In December 2012, I began designing & developing a website that became Songnotes. Here, I share my personal collection of hand-crafted music notation with all those online. I hope you enjoy.
